Luxury AND safety live here in Ashland!

Luxury AND safety live here in Ashland! Acura took another step in solidifying its reputation as the safety leader and innovator in the luxury segment with the addition of the Acura RLX to its increasing list of models earning a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score, the top available rating in the U.S. Government’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The safety rating, which includes five star ratings in all six crash test ratings and a five-star rollover resistance rating, applies to both the 2016 RLX and RLX Sport Hybrid.

2016 RLXIn addition to the RLX, Acura has earned top safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating for the TLX performance sedan and MDX luxury SUV, which are each equipped with the exclusive AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. AcuraWatch™ has expanded to every model in the Acura lineup for 2016.

“The 2016 Acura RLX exemplifies how the brand is creating new value for luxury customers with the addition of advanced safety technologies,” said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president and general manager, Acura Division. “Luxury customers expect the latest in technology and Acura delivers with safety and driver assistive technologies available across the lineup.”

Available on all trims and standard on the Technology and Advance packages, the RLX now includes AcuraWatch™, a comprehensive suite of safety and driver assistive technologies that help to improve the driver’s situational awareness and, in certain circumstances, intervene to help avoid a collision or mitigate its severity. AcuraWatch™ includes Acura’s Collision Mitigation Braking System, an autonomous emergency braking (AEB) feature that the NHTSA recently announced would be added to its list of NCAP recommended safety features.

The 2016 RLX offers the most comprehensive suite of safety and driver assistive technologies available on an Acura vehicle to date; depending upon trim, the RLX includes:

· Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF)

· Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS)

· Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

· Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

· Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

· Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) – new to RLX

· Blind Spot Information (BSI)

· Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines

· Cross Traffic Monitor – new to RLX

Acura Surround View Camera System

The luxury sedan features the first U.S. application of Acura’s Surround View Camera 2016 RLX sindiesystem, which provides a 360-degree image of the area around the vehicle. Assisting drivers with critical and precise driving and parking situations, the system employs four cameras to seamlessly create a composite bird’s eye image to provide the driver with information about the surroundings. The cameras can also provide singular views behind, in front, to the left and right of the vehicle. Dynamic guidelines are displayed on the navigation screen to help the driver see their projected path relative to the lines demarking parking spaces or other objects, allowing them to maneuver with greater confidence.

RLX Gets Other Key Refinements

The 2016 RLX flagship luxury sedan has also received significant chassis tuning refinements to enhance ride quality and has upgraded to 19-inch wheels that are standard across all trims. Best of all, despite all of the additions to the 2016 model year, the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) of the 2016 RLX remain unchanged from the 2015 model.

The 2016 RLX Sport Hybrid, which features a three-motor Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system with electrically powered torque vectoring, goes on sale this summer. We’ll keep you posted on when the newest addition in safety and luxury arrive on our lot!

Acura Customers Say, “We Love Butler!”

Rob and Maggie with their new Acura MDX

Rob and Maggie with their new Acura MDX

Want to know how safe the Acura MDX is? Just ask Maggie and Rob M., who recently bought their second MDX from Butler Acura after the first one, a 2008 model, was crunched in an accident. Maggie was lucky to escape uninjured.

Maggie says she “loved the old car” and knew she “wanted another MDX”. We were thrilled to find this one for them, and they seemed equally appreciative of their time at Butler. It was “awesome, as always,” Maggie said. Rob chimed in, “Everybody’s so nice. “It’s a more personal, more family-friendly buying experience. They make sure we’re taken care of. We love Butler!” Maggie and Rob, we feel the same about you!

2013 Acura ILX Receives Top Safety Pick Award

The 2013 Acura ILX hasn’t been on the scene long but already it’s turning heads and piquing  interest.  Aside from the fact that the entry-level luxury sedan is good-lookin’ and affordable (starting at under $27,000), now it’s been awarded the Insurance Institute for High Safety’s (IIHS) highest possible safety rating.   The ILX is in great, and equally attractive, company.  The 2013 Acura RDX (now on sale) and 2012 TL, TSX Sedan and TSX Sport Wagon have also earned Top Safety Pick honors.  So, congratulations to all those behind the ILX who are bringing to life the company’s tagline of “Safety Through Innovation”.

Mobile IAlert App Sends Messages From Your Child’s Carseat to Your Smartphone

Tomy International "The First Years" converitible car seat mobile IAlert app

That alert your smart phone just sounded? It’s a message from your child’s car seat. And no, we’re not kidding. Tomy International is touting a new child safety seat complete with sensors that monitor everything from proper seat installation to whether you accidentally left your kid in the car. Download the mobile IAlert app and, should your toddler’s seatbelt, among other things, come un-buckled, The First Years convertible carseat will, you guessed it, send you a message.

Tomy maintains that the app is not meant to be used while you’re driving. quotes Greg Kilrea, the President of Tomy International, as saying, “Our mission is to help parents and caregivers keep kids safe by making our quality products easy to use and install and by building in features and functions that take some of the guesswork out of using infant gear properly.” But we’re skeptical. If the alert does sound while you and your kiddo are on the road, wouldn’t you want to check it? And wouldn’t the mere act of doing so take your eyes off the road, thereby putting you and your wee one more at risk of crashing? And not just crashing but crashing while something’s wrong with the car seat that’s designed to keep your kid safe. Are we missing something here?

Maybe so. Maybe most drivers would be conscientious enough to pull off the road before glancing at their phone. Maybe most parents would find the IAlert app beneficial. But, let’s face it, if you need a car seat sensor to remind you you left your kid in the car, you’ve got bigger distraction problems. And no, there’s no app for that.

(If you’d rather do things the old-fashioned way, the Jackson County Sheriff’s office will check your child’s car seat for proper installation free of charge:
